Exterior description and setting

A two-storey, seven-bay slated and gabled house. Main entrance faces north-east.

Entrance front has roof of Bangor blue slates in regular courses, terracotta ridge tiles; four chimneys, smooth rendered, with modern pots. Wall pebble dashed with smooth cement rendered quoins, plinth, and surrounds to openings. Cast iron rainwater goods. Windows rectangular timber sliding sash, 6 over 6 without horns. Front door glazed and panelled, set in deep recess, with timber post frames; reveals lined and blocked; a moulded rendered surround with raised keystone.

South gable smooth cement rendered, lined and blocked; ground floor shows evidence of having had an outbuilding removed from it.

Rear elevation is rendered with a wet dash; roof slated as entrance front; windows as previous, but with horns; one window to each side of rear door has modern rectangular fixed lights with translucent glass.

North gable smooth cement rendered, lined and blocked; PVC and cast iron downpipes.

SETTING: The house stands in a very rural area set well back from the main road within its own farmland. Approached by a long drive which ends in a rear yard. Outbuildings to rear and south; garden to immediate front of house.

Historical information

Precise date of building not known but the house named 'Lark Hill' appears on the OS map of 1857. The building block on the same site on the map of 1832 appears to be smaller and was presumably a predecessor, subsequently enlarged or rebuilt.
