The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Site, on the E side of Drumaness Road, roughly 2 miles SE of Ballynahinch, of a former single storey vernacular dwelling of perhaps c.1860s, demolished c.1980s with a larger house built in its place.
The original dwelling was described in the first survey of March 1978 as: ‘Single storey. Raised verges. Walls and chimney rubble stone limewashed. Front left hand [window] drop hung sash, vertical astragals. Right hand sheeted door. Extension to right of door. Apparently flat roofed [and] rubble limewashed over drop hung sash as before’.
Historical information
A building is shown on this site on the OS map of c.1901, but not on that of 1858. It is possible, given its smallness and overtly vernacular arrangement, that house present on this site until recently was built shortly after the latter date. The building was demolished c.1983.
