The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Pair of three-storey / two bay houses now used as shops. Designed as a pair with common coach arch at centre and fronting directly onto street.
Artificial slate roof, no chimneys, and plastic rain water goods. Walls are cement rendered with modern shop frontages at left and right. Windows are modern double-glazed replacements
The only feature of interest is the semi-elliptical headed coach arch and arched doorways, similarly profiled, on either side. Encasing the door within the opening at left (no. 8) is a pair of Tuscan columns supporting an entablature. No. 6 has lost these features and a modern mahogany door has been inserted. Both doors retain their original fanlights.
Historical information
Shown on 1835 OS map. Valuation of 1835 notes occupant of No.6 as Dr Moorhead, and No.8 as Dr Dickson (both houses of equal value). Both described as having three storeys in 1863 valuation.

Evaluation
Pair of three-storey / two bay houses. Early building with good door surrounds but too much of the original fabric has been lost to merit listing. The Conservation Area is an appropriate level of protection.
