Exterior description and setting

Single storey, five bay vernacular house on west side of Tandragee Road.

Roof is pitched and natural slated, with the exception of left bay which is artificial slated. Second bay from right has a small gabled porch. There are three chimneys, one to right gable is rendered with circular yellow pots, a red brick one on party wall between central bay and room to its right and a rendered one on party wall between left and second left bays. Right gable has a tiled copping. Semicircular cast iron rainwater goods.

Wall to east elevation is wet dashed and painted and almost completely obscured by ivy. Main entrance is to second bay from right. Front door is four panelled varnished, stained timber with a cast iron bat knocker. It is set within a gable with decorative bargeboard and pitched natural slate roof. Abutting jambs of front door is a small painted timber lattice porch with pitched felt roof.

There are six windows to east elevation, those to each bay have different cill levels. All are 1/1 modern top hung painted timber casements with painted granite cills. there are two to right bay, one to central bay, two to second bay from left and one to left bay.

North and south gables are dashed and painted and devoid of openings.

West (rear) elevation is abutted to centre three bays bay a single storey flat roofed extension. Remaining wall to left is dashed and contains a fixed cast iron lattice window. Wall to right is partially abutted by a glazed conservatory and its external section is dashed and contains a t+g door and small modern window lighting a store.

Extension has a felt roof with tall brick chimney rising from centre. It has three modern window on rear wall and a door on right cheek into conservatory. Conservatory is of no interest. To front grass verge is mown to road and to rear is a large mature garden.

Historical information

A building is shown at this location on the 1834 OS map. However, as its valuation was less than £5, it is not cited in the accompanying valuation book. There is no change in its £1.10s.0d valuation between 1863 and 1908, when it increases by £1. This may indicate an extension.
