Historical information
A building is shown on this plot on the 1835 OS 6” map. Unfortunately it is not possible to determine its size and form at this time as the Valuation plot number is uncertain – however it could be the market house cited in the Valuation Book. It is cited as a Petty Sessions House in the 1864 Valuation Book.
The first HMBB survey card reads:
“ Two storey block with enclosed stair to Court House. First floor and public toilets and office on ground floor. Four first floor double-hung windows with vertical astragals. Roof slated. Walls recently of roughcast and ground floor recently reconstructed. Condition good. About 48ft frontage.”
