The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A rectangular plan public hall with pitched roof situated to rear of town hall (HB16/11/003).
Pitched roof.
Front (SW) gable abuts the town hall.
The right (SE) elevation has a firedoor and three modern rectangular window openings containing new modern timber casements separated by rendered buttresses. A modern fuel tank abuts.
The left (NW) elevation leading into a new structure (under construction at time of survey).
Rear (NE) gable is abutted by a modern two-storey cement rendered fly-tower (over stage) with dressing rooms to rear under a lean-to felt roof. These structures are modern and of no interest with cement rendered walls modern timber doors and windows.
Historical information
This public hall was erected (to the rear of the town hall) by Warrenpoint Town Commissioners in 1887. It was designed by W.J. Watson and cost £800. In 1911 the building hosted the showing of the first moving picture in the town.
