Exterior description and setting

Two storey / two bay house on hill to north side of Main Street. Pitched concrete pantile roof with modern overhanging boxed timber eaves. Single pebble dashed chimney on party wall between bays. Semicircular plastic rainwater goods with down pipes to either side of front elevation.

Walls are pebble-dashed with smooth rendered basecourse, which becomes broader to right as street falls away. All windows are uPVC double-glazed to ground floor and modern timber to first floor. All have thin concrete cills. Ground floor, from left to right is as follows: modern uPVC door, large modern window to left bay. On right bay (which steps down) are a sheeted timber door, and a large modern shop window and glazed door both set together in one opening with step up to door. At first floor there are three modern fixed windows with side hung casements and transom, two to left bay, and one to right.

Adjacent buildings abut left and right gables. The exposed right gable is blank.

Historical information

Two buildings shown on 1834 valuation map. Described as two two-storey houses in c.1861 valuation book.

The first HMBB survey card states, “ c1800. A terrace of two storey buildings with lined rendered walls and slated roofs along a squared eaves cornice. There are four D/H (double hung) windows on 1st floor with plain sashes, two windows to G/F are modern, the other is D/H with sashes divided into four panes. There are modern entrances on G/F, the other entrance door is sheeted.”
