The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Originally a one-storey building facing west in snecked and regularly coursed squared granite rubble. Gabled slate roof.
West elevation has shuttered window openings along its lenghth, and two doors (one infilled). Also a large double door at south end of east façade.
Walls raised c. 2.4m (c.8ft) in squared granite blocks in the comparatively recent past to accommodate storage loft: slate roof reinstated and new wall sections cement rendered externally.
One-storey concrete-block shed with monopitch corrugated metal roof on east wall.
Historical information
First cited in the Valuation Book and Flax Mill Returns, both 1866, indicating an 1865 construction date. Belonged at that time to Henry Quinn and contained eight stocks and a set of flax breakers. Operations ceased 1898, but recommenced under William Quinn during first world war until 1922. Also worked during Second World War: annex added in 1944 (date inscribed in wall) to house auxiliary Blackstone diesel engine and two tow stocks. Operations probably ceased shortly after end of war.

Evaluation
Primarily of technical interest on account of the survival of all plant and machinery. Also of some historical interest in reflecting upsurge in flax growing in 1860s (due to American Civil War), and Second World War additions.
