Exterior description and setting

A single arched masonry bridge carrying a footpath over a roadway cutting. It is aligned east to west.

Built of limestone rubble with an elliptical archway. Slightly humped footpath above protected on both sides by decorative cast iron railings with wrought iron handrail with curved returns to ends. Abutments flanked on each side by slightly battered rubble retaining walls to roadway cutting.

SETTING: The bridge stands within the demesne of Loughgall Manor House, linking two parts of the gardens, and surrounded by mature trees and plantings. The roadway which it spans runs from in front of the former stable yard toward a peripheral estate road to the north.

Historical information

Built as a pedestrian bridge over a roadway cutting, linking two parts of the gardens within the demesne of the Manor House. Precise date of structure not recorded but it appears to be marked on the OS map of 1860 and may be taken to date from the mid-19th century.
