The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Two small semicircular arches carry a two-lane road over a stream. The upstream (east) face is of random rubble limestone, with rock-faced voussoirs and rounded cutwater (with domed top) rising to arch crown level. The downstream face is of finely dressed limestone blocks, with similar dressed voussoirs, but no cutwater. There is no evident trace of widening in the soffit, but the width of the bridge suggests that this was probably the case.
Concrete footings have been added around the abutments and piers. Both parapets have been rebuilt in the recent past in random rubble (as were the originals); the original rock-faced coping blocks have been retained. A pipe is carried across the downstream face.
Historical information
A bridge, probably the present one, is shown on the 1834 OS 6" map. It is probably of early 18th century date, with a mid 19th century widening.
