The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A small semicircular span carries the main Newtownbutler - Clones road over a small stream. The up (north) and down (south) faces exhibit different masonry constructs. The former is of small squared sandstone blocks, irregularly laid and has a finely dressed voussoir. The downstream face is of random rubble, with roughly-dressed voussoirs. Both parapets are coped with large irregular blocks. The inside of the arch has been gunited, obscuring the join between the two sections; the upstream face is undoubtedly later.
Historical information
This bridge is shown on the 1834 OS 6" map. It is explicitly captioned 'Lurganboy Br' on the 1857 and subsequent editions. Judging by its style, the downstream section is probably later 18th century in date, and the upstream addition added in the mid 19th century.
