The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Two semicircular spans carry a two-lane road (plus footpaths) over the River Finn. The entire upstream (NE) face and downstream parapet have been rebuilt in the recent past in sandstone.
Voussoirs of dressed sandstone; keystone on down side is plain, and that to up side is rusticated. Abutments, piers and cutwaters (to both sides) of dressed sandstone blocks. The cutwaters rise to arch spring level and each has a projecting string course and domed top. The spandrels and parapets are of random rubble. The latter are coped with sandstone blocks, some of which are rusticated. The inside faces of the arches have been gunnited. There is a slight hump to the deck.
At the east end of the downstream approach wall is a small semicircular arch in dressed sandstone. There is no trace on the opposite side. It presumably accommodated a mill race.
Historical information
Cited on the 1834 OS 6" map as a footbridge. Had been replaced with a road bridge by 1857, indicating a mid 19th century construction date.
