The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
A 5 classroom primary school planned on cluster layout with a mixture of pyramidal and flat roofs, single storey and brick faced.
A primary school planned with a classroom cluster arrangement with its associated assembly hall, meals accommodation. Each element is easily identified externally classrooms distinguishable by pyramidal roofs, assembly by its greater height and greater geometric proportions and the ancillary accommodation with its lower roof line and flat roofs. The arrangement has a further advantage of having an intimate scale that will not intimidate the young pupils and creates lots of interests, nooks and crannies about the building.
The walls are built of rustic brick, windows broken up into small units except in assembly hall and the adoption of smaller glazing units helps in producing the right atmosphere. Flat roofs have low solid parapets, concrete tiled pyramidal roofs have timber fascia with applied gutters.
The school, sited on falling ground to the S of Springhill Road, nestles well into its site which is filled with paved play areas, car parking and grass areas.
Historical information
School built in 1973 and replaced school in Circular Road.
