Exterior description and setting

A 3 bay wide, 2 storey end of terrace, stone built house, gabled with slated roof.

A 3 bay wide street frontage with slightly off centre PVC door and 12 pane PVC window on each side, that to the West wider. At first floor 2, 12 pane PVC windows approximately centred over those below. Walls built of roughly squared and coursed white limestone with new redbrick trim to door and windows. Because of ground slope internal heights are greater than in No. 7 adjacent. ½ round metal gutter, natural slated roof, brick built gable chimney stack (recent work).

The gable wall is partially faced with roughly squared coursed white limestone and sandstone quoins. Upper section of gable smooth rendered, lined and unpainted. To the rear the walls and back return rendered.

At the gable of the house modern iron gates allow access to market yard and corn store.

Historical information

2 storey, recently renovated artisan terrace house fronting onto Market Street and part of the 2nd Market project carried out by the Draper’s Company. In 1975 the occupant was F Anderson and in 1982 I Purvis. G & R Stock in possession in year 2000.

Evaluation

A pleasing 2 storey 3 bay long artisan stone built, with brick trim, terrace house, recently renovated of the late Georgian period and part of the Market and corn store project completed in 1839. Forms a part of pleasing terrace though it is unfortunate that PVC windows and door have been used.
