Exterior description and setting

A 2 storey slated terrace house, white limestone wall with brick trim to openings.

A 3 bay wide terrace front with central front door with wide plain door frame, thin pilasters each side and cornice over. Segemented headed window opening on each side, with redbrick trim, sandstone cill and 2 similar window openings over at 1st floor but of lesser height. Brick corbel course under ½ round metal gutter. Wall built of partly coursed white limestone, with sandstone quoins on one side. Natural slated roof, brick chimney. All openings boarded up. House vacant. Roof hipped where it abuts No. 13 High Street. Remaining elevations could not be viewed.

Historical information

Part of terrace of artisan houses fronting onto Market Street and part of the 2nd market project carried out by the Draper’s Company. On the map accompanying the Deputation’s report of 1839, no building is indicated on this part of site, nor is one shown on the O.S. Map of 1856. It is a later infill but carried out in matching stonework. The building is presently vacant.

A 3 bay wide, 2 storey, artisan house of the mid 19th cent. built as a piece of infill to the large market and corn store complex of couple of decades earlier. Built in sympathy with the adjoining structures and observing the symmetry of the overall scheme.
