The Department's description

Exterior description and setting

This building has been demolished and replaced by a block of shops and appartments.

Described in the first survey in 1970 as 'A three-storey building divided into 5 bays on street elevation. Centre bay contains a modern entrance, aediculed niche and flanking windows on first floor, two windows at second floor level, all surmounted by shaped gables. There is a public bar at ground floor of east bay. Intermediate bays contain two windows at each floor level, and are surmounted by crenellations. Plain sashed windows are set in pilastered aedicules on ground floor and first floor; consoles only supported cornices on second floor.'

Historical information

First established in 1853, with that date inscribed in the pediment; façade rebuilt in 1910 after a fire. Still owned by Henry McNeill Ltd when first surveyed in 1970. Demolished in 1970s or 1980s.
