Exterior description and setting

A long two-storey gabled building of rubble stone, partly harled and whitened, with a high-breastshot waterwheel of 4.25 m (14 ft) diameter remaining in position at the east gable. The building which is otherwise without interest is roofed partly with corrugated asbestos and partly with modern asbestos slates, and has some vertically hung timber sash windows to the front; red brick chimney to one gable and red brick dressings to some openings.

SETTING: It stands on a corner site in a rural and coastal location, set back from the main Coast Road, with a modern bungalow immediately in front of it, built to replace the original 19th century farmhouse.

Historical information

The year of construction is not known but it may date from the mid-19th century. It appears on the OS map of 1903; a smaller building is shown on the OS map of 1857 but in approximately the same position and so dating is inconclusive.

A plain 19th century building of little architectural interest which has lost some of its original features, and which is only worth noting for the survival of its mill wheel.
