The Department's description

Cast iron triangular milepost of perhaps c.1830s set on the N side of Munie Road, roughly 3¼ miles SW of Glenarm.

The faces of the milepost are painted in the usual manner, with black legend against a white background. The W face reads ‘Glenarm 2½ [Irish] miles’and the E face ‘Ballymena 14’. The top face has broken off.

This milepost is of the same style as those erected along the near by Antrim Coast Road (many of which still survive). As the Coast Road was laid out between 1832 and 1842 it is possible that these date from this time, though it has to be said that the road on which this particular example stands predates 1832 and similar mileposts are found elsewhere in the county, some of them well away from the Coast Road. However the typeface used on the post is not inconsistent with an 1830s date.
