Exterior description and setting

A single storey building with rendered walls and slated roof, which appears to have been originally a pair of cottages but now united as one property. Main entrances faces north.

Entrance elevation is five-bay, containing three windows alternating with two doors. Roof of asbestos slates in regular courses; three chimneys, one on each gable and one at an intermediate position, smooth rendered and whitened; one stub pot in each. PVC gutter; no downpipe on wall; gutter extends to west to discharge into a modern cylindrical tank set in recess in a garden wall. Wall is smooth rendered and whitened, with a black paintwork plinth. Windows are rectangular timber sliding sash, vertically hung, 2 over 2, with horns, with exposed frames, set in plain reveals with recessed cills. Doors are rectangular timber sheeted in plain reveals, both with a half-door. Plain gables to each end, with a lean-to shed of corrugated iron built against the east one.

SETTING: The building stands in a very rural and scenic area, isolated from other development; it faces the main coastal road, overlooking the sea, but set back from the road slightly with a small front garden bounded at the front by a hedge containing a central pedestrian gateway.
Gateway comprises a modern slatted timber gate hung between concrete piers with ball finials and panels of coloured glass and seashells set in cement.
Grassed plot to east of house, bounded at front by a basalt rubble drystone wall; vehicular gateway of timber and wire, on wooden posts, at eastern extremity.

This is an attractive building of probably early 19th century origin consisting of two former vernacular cottages, now renovated and united in one property which retains a number of original features, but does not appear to be of any special architectural or historic interest.
