The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Demolished and site remains vacant.
Described in the first survey in 1970 as "A large structure of white limestone containing several kilns in semi-circular arched openings in receding orders. Two tapering brick flues remain; one has been demolished. There are cylindrical uprights built of white limestone with a little blackstone and brick."
Historical information
Built in 1857 by the Marchioness of Londonderry for commercial lime crushing and burning, but used for a short time only as their process was superseded by the pulverising roller method. One flue was demolished by 1970, followed by another by 1980; remainder cleared away by 1989; delisted in 1990.
