The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Former listed building delisted, demolished and rebuilt to a separate design. One slide taken for comparison with previous records.
Described in 1970 as: 'Mid 19th century. A 3 storey building with rendered walls and slated roof. The façade is 3 windows wide. All d/h with full astragals except on ground floor. The entrance is set in a segmental arched opening, unfluted doric columns rise to a decorated frieze and cornice. The fanlight is glazed with hooked and decorative astragals. This terrace contains a number of fine doorways . The remainder of the buildings have generally been altered'.
Historical information
Delisted in 1988 after a review of the terrace by the Historic Buildings Council: ‘This terrace was originally listed in the hope that the good quality buildings would have an influence in upgrading the more numerous poorer ones: In the course of time the complete terrace would be restored to its original state of excellence but instead it would appear that the opposite has happened here and the good buildings have been altered to the unacceptable standard of the poorer quality buildings…Following discussion members recommended that the following buildings should be delisted no. 29 Mitchells, nos. 31/33 Nurseyneeds, nos. 35/37 Kens.’ The replacement building of 1995/6 was designed by GM Design of Coleraine.
