The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Pair of rubble stone built square gate pillars in poor condition, situated at the verge of Ballyquin Road where a secondary estate avenue crosses the road. There is a pleasing pair of wrought iron gates between the pillars with dipping curving top rail, an intermediate straight rail and a bottom rail. The gates were made by A Brown, Derry (name on gates).
Historical information
It is assumed that there were complimentary pillars and gates on the other side of the Ballyquin Road where there was formerly a gate lodge now demolished (see HB02/07/002D). The lodge and avenue are shown on the O.S. map of 1832. A Brown, Derry was a foundry established in 1876 in Foyle Road and the gates are probably much later than the stone pillars.
