Exterior description and setting

A rath or circle bounded by ditch on which grow trees. A well preserved rath or ringfort sited at the top of a low ridge across the top end of Fincarn Glen opposite St Joseph’s R.C. Church (HB02/05/010A). It is enclosed by a bank of earth and stones which varies in width. On the bank are growing small trees such as hawthorn and blackthorn which add to the sense of enclosure. There is an opening or entrance at the S E side.

Historical information

One of a series of raths in the surrounding area but much more easily discerned than most. Probably a farmstead/rath of pre and post historical times.

Evaluation

An interesting circular rath with encircling ditch of earth and stones of varying width, made more visually exciting by the ring of small trees growing from the ditch. There is an opening or break in the ditch on the S. side.
