The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
One of two adjacent hydraulic rams in Carnamuff Townland along side a small stream not named on Ordnance Survey Maps. This ram has its pump mechanism parallel to the weir of its neighbour (HB02/03/020A). The mechanism is inside a concrete box on ground above the small gorge carved out by the stream. The box is 1300mm high by 900mm wide and 1200mm long. It is covered by a rusting corrugated metal roof. On the east side is a small plaque: ‘1961’. The pump is served by a weir approximately ten metres further upstream and the route of an underground pipe connecting the two can be made out via a ridge on the ground. A smaller pipe appears to emerge from the downstream side of the pump and follow the river for ten metres before re-emerging under a pile of stones parallel with the pump of the second ram.
Historical information
First appears on current edition of Ordnance Survey. Plaque of 1961 seems to confirm construction date. Pump used to raise water from the river to tank to feed cows.

Evaluation
Interesting for industrial archaeology reasons as a use of water power to aid farming. Of no architectural value. Unusual and intriguing objects in the landscape
