Exterior description and setting

A single semi-circular stone arch bridge spanning the river Faughan in Dreen/Tireighter townlands. The arch span is 6 meters between parapets, built of local schist with 1 metre high stone parapets. The parapets have been raised in the past as the original vertical stone can be discerned in places. The foundations of the arch spring off the bedrock and there is evidence of the stone corbels used to support the timber formwork that would have been used in constructing the arch. The road being roughly parallel to the rive rbed turns sharply at right angles to cross the river. The parapet extends well past the arch on either side and curves with the bend in the road.

The river bed at this point is rocky, dramatic and downstream a deep dark brown pool.

Historical information

Bridge is probably late 18th century and constructed under the Grand Jury system.
