The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Two unit, direct entry, gable hearth, bed outshot, single storey cottage with outhouse in line at either end and roofed with corrugated metal. Thatch to dwelling collapsed including supporting roof members. Sliding sash windows and sheeted door. Glazing missing. Fireplace adapted for range. The whole including details is ruinous.
Historical information
Indicated on Ordnance Survey Map of 1831.
Former occupant emigrated to Unites States and one of her family, a son, became bishop of Wilmington, Delaware and visited the cottage in 1965 on his way back from Vatican Council II. Photograph of event published in Derry Journal.
Described in 1972 as 'a harled and whitened thatched cottage with two chimney's. The sheeted door is flanked either side by sashed windows with vertical divisions. Buildings extend either side with corrugated iron roofs.'
