Ritual site - holy/saint's stone

Situated on the shore above the high tide mark where it is supported on a few stones. Stokes (1893) equated the local saint’s name 'Vauk' with the French saint Vogue, claiming Vogue for Ireland, but Dalton (1921, 19-20) debunks the connection and through the linguistics of what he calls the Flemish language of the Anglo-Norman settlers identifies Vauk as St. Féichín of Fore, Co. Westmeath (WM004-035003-). According to Stokes St. Vogue made the journey from Carnsore to Lan Veoc, south of the bay of Douarnenez, in Brittany, on a boulder, which then returned to Carnsore, although a fragment was left in France. All the references to the stone post-date Stokes (Mac Leighim 1920, 134-5).
The stone is a large boulder (dims 2.1m x 1.5m; T 0.55m) which is now upside down, but its underside has an incised T-shaped cross, which is comprised of what are probably natural channels (Wth c. 3cm; D c. 3-4cm).
