According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) a windmill at Bargy was owned by William Rossiter (Simington 1953, 128). It is marked on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a windmill stump, but it is unlikely that this is the earlier windmill. It is located on a level landscape. This is a cylindrical tower (ext. diam. 4.65m; int. diam. 3.15m; H 5.2m) of three floors with opposing doorways at NW (Wth 0.76m; H 1.6m) and SE, but the latter is adapted as a pointed window (Wth 0.74m; H 1.1m). Steps protrude from the S wall inside the NW doorway rising to the second floor where it emerges at NE. The ground floor has box niches at S and SW, and a machinery recess or ledge at NE. The joists for the upper floors were set directly into the wall. There are slit windows on the first floor at N and SSE, and at N and SW on the second floor, but the top of the wall was crenellated as a folly after the mill had been abandoned. Bargy castle (WX047-047----) is c. 170m to the NE.
