The National Monuments Service's description

References to the Codds of Rathaspick date from 1351 but to the castle only from 1564 when it was owned by Nicholas Codd of Carne (WX053-027----) (Hore 1925, 36-7). According to the Civil Survey (1655-6) Nicholas Codd, a Protestant, owned just 80 acres in Rathaspick and Ballykelly townlands in 1641 (Simington 1953, 299). In 1680 Thomas Richards of Park, Co. Wexford, married June Codd and Rathaspick passed to the Richards family (Jeffrey 1979, 30). The location of the castle has always been assumed to be at Rathaspick House, an 18th century mansion, which incorporates older work. It is known locally that when the render was stripped back in 1987 small lights were noticed in the fabric of the central part of the SE front.
