Castle - tower house

The earliest reference is from 1616 when Robert Rawcettor (Rossiter) of Bargy (WX047-047----) and Walter Bryan of Scar-carrig (WX046-07001-) leased land at Longraigue from Rosegarland (Hore 1900-11, vol. 2, 193). According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) where the castle is described as in repair, James Bryan, the son of Walter, is recorded as the heir to 200 acres at Longraige (Simington 1953, 92). The castle is also marked on the Down Survey map (1655-6) in the National Library of Ireland (ms 725). It is located towards the head of a small SW-NE valley. The base of the wall with a base-batter on the N wall and a base-batter and granite quoins at the SE angle is incorporated into Longgraigue House, an 18th century house, according to this website accessed 7 February, 2013: (http://www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&county=WX&regno=15704027).
