The National Monuments Service's description

Described as the site of a castle on the 1839 and 1941 eds of the OS 6-inch map and situated in the valley of a short S-N stream on its E bank and c. 150m S of where it enters the WNW-ESE River Slaney. The earliest reference dates to 1666 when it was granted to Philip Hore, although it had been owned by Roches of Drinagh (WX042-012----) (Jeffrey 1979, 107). It was probably not a tower house but a dwelling of the 17th century. Archaeological testing (00E0788) c. 100m to the S produced no related material (Noonan 2002), but an intensive survey at the same time identified a length of the S (L 1.5m; H 0.5m) and E (L 2.7m; H 1.5m) walls (Noonan 2000, 3-4) of the structure.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
