Cremated remains

The National Monuments Service's description

First identified in centre-line testing (00E0379) for the re-alignment of the N25 Wexford town to New Ross road (Elder and Tierney 2002), and completely excavated (00E0623) subsequently. It is situated on a fairly level landscape. A concentration of five small pits (dims. 0.55m x 0.32m; D 0.07m to diam. 1.5m; D 0.05m) are filled with silty clays, almost all of which contain burnt bone, some of which is human. A fragment of oak charcoal produced a C14 date of cal AD 103-122. 20m to the NE is a large shallow pit (dims. 2.72m x 1m; D 0.15m) with a smaller one (diam. 0.4m; D 0.57m) nearby, but only the latter contained burnt bone.
