The National Monuments Service's description
First identified in centre-line testing (00E0379) for the re-alignment of the N25 Wexford town to New Ross road (Elder and Tierney 2002), and fully excavated (00E0424) subsequently. It is located at the crest of NE-facing slope. Eight stake-holes form a line (L c. 4m) aligned NW-SE (Tierney 2002). A sample of charcoal produce a C14 date of cal BC 3120-2900 (Tierney 2006, 6). About 25m to the NW three shallow pits were excavated, and two of them (diam. 0.5-0.7m; D 0.1-0.2m) produced prehistoric pottery while one of them produced a C14 date of cal BC 4040-3800 (Tierney 2006, 31). Archaeological testing (06E0778) on a large triangular site (dims. c. 240m N-S; c. 270m E-W at N) immediately S of the new road produced no archaeological material or features (McLoughlin 2009).
