The National Monuments Service's description

Marked on the 1839 and 1925 eds of the OS 6-inch map and described as Tobergal – the Bright Well – in both, in Italic lettering on the earlier map and gothic lettering on the later. It is located in a little N-S valley at the S foothills of Carrickbyrne Hill with a small stream c. 5m to the E. The area was densely overgrown but it was described locally as a natural spring. There is no evidence that it was ever venerated or of any great antiquity.
