The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope that is at the bottom of the steep SE-facing slope of Carrickbyrne Hill. This is a circular area (diam. 51m N-S; 47m E-W) within a coniferous forest defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3 5m; int. H 0.2 1m; ext. H 1.2 1.5m), with an external fosse most evident NE S (at E: Wth of top 4.5m; D 0.7m) and SW NW (Wth 5m; D 1.2m). The entrance (Wth 1m) and causeway (Wth 1.8m) are at S but there is a secondary entrance (Wth 3m) with out-turned banks at SW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
