Ringfort - rath

The National Monuments Service's description

Located in the bottom of a steep-sided S-N valley and towards its head, with a stream c. 30m to the W. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 37m) defined by the remains of an overgrown bank, best preserved SW-NW (Wth 4m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 2m), with an external, flat-bottomed, and overgrown fosse (Wth 5m), and an outer bank (Wth 4m; H 2m) only evident SW-N. The entrance may have been at the S. It was pointed out to John O’Donovan c. 1840 as the site of Finshoge castle (WX034-008001-) (O’Flanagan 1933, vol. 2, 259). Earthwork (WX034-009----) is c. 80m to the S and rath (WX034-010----) is c. 150m to the SE. It is listed as a possible ringwork castle (Barry 1987, 52-3).
