Tomb - chest tomb

The National Monuments Service's description

From: O’Mahony, A. (1987, 7, No. 3) Attached to a wall of the former western aisle of the South Transept is a tombstone (Wth 0.84m; H 2.36m; T 0.14m) with a central foliate cross. There is an elaborate I.H.S. on the left side under the head of the cross. The inscription, which is very indistinct in parts, is in a mixture of Latin and English, It reads:

Hic Jacet - - - s f(?) elan (?) and his wife Joan hanroke whose soulless ihus take to merci 1577. Walterus (?) Herey (?) fabricavit eadam (?) tombam
(Here lies - - - s F(?) elan (?) and his wife Joan Hanroke whose souls Jesus take to mercy. 1577. Walterus(?) Herey(?) constructed this same (?) tomb.)
