Tomb - chest tomb

From: O’Mahony, A. (1987, 14, No. 1) This tombstone (Wth 0.76m; H 2.14m; T 0.18m) is attached to a wall in one of the side chapels in the S transept. A foliate cross extends the length of the stone. The inscription runs along the edge, starting at the base of the cross. It reads:

Hic iacet Johanes. white quod, burgensis, ville. de. ross. q. obijt 29. Die. Martij a(o) 1569 et Joana. G (?) – a- uxor. eius q obij xi – stone broken bruarij. 1594. quoru amabus. proopicietur. deus
(Here lies John White, formerly burgess of the town of Ross, who died on the 29th day of March, in the year 1569, and Joanna G --- , his wife, who died on the 11th of (Fe)bruary, 1594. On whose souls may God look with favour.)
