Ringfort - rath

The National Monuments Service's description

Marked as a circular wooded area on the 1839 (diam. c. 70m) and the 1924 (diam. c. 50m) eds of the OS 6-inch map, and located on a slight W-facing slope. It is described in the 1940s as a circular area (diam. c. 36m E-W; c. 34m N-S) defined by a low earthen bank (Wth c. 4m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.3-0.6m) with an external fosse. An outer bank (Wth c. 5-6m; H c. 1.5m) was incorporated into a field bank S-N and was removed N S but with a second outer fosse (Wth c. 1.5m) in this area (SMR file). A curving field bank S-N is all that survives above ground (diam. 50m). Archaeological testing (08E0152) outside a fallow area E and SE of the monument produced no related material (Hurley 2011).
