The National Monuments Service's description
Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme, and set aside for resolution as Ballynabarney 3 (Hardy et al. 2010, 103-04). It is situated on a W-facing slope in the valley of the N-S River Slaney, with the river c. 380m to the W. It was fully excavated (E4210) by C. Hardy who recorded a steep-sided oval pit (dims 1.9m E-W; 1.75m N-S; D 0.7m) with three fills which had some content of burnt stone. A sample from the middle fill produced a C14 date of cal. BC 1880-1686. The pit is probably a trough from a fulacht fia, but no trace of a mound was recovered. A drain, a ditch and a plough furrow were also sampled, but these are probably post-medieval. The pit (WX020-105----) is c. 150m to the WSW. (Hull and McNamara 2012; Hardy 2013)
