The National Monuments Service's description
Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme, and set aside for resolution as Ballynabarney 2 (Hardy et al. 2010, 102-03). It is situated on a level landscape in the valley of the N-S River Slaney, with the river c. 250m to the W. It was excavated (E4208) by C. Hardy when about 14 pits produced a large quantity of prehistoric pottery, much of it Beaker, and all from only five of the pits. The pits (dims 0.33m x 0.29m; D 0.32m to 1.31m x 1.13m; D 0.33m) were dispersed about the excavated area (dims 41m x 21m) and belonged to the first phase of use. A second phase was represented by a double row (excavated L 26m; Wth 0.46m) of stake-holes (diam. c. 0.12m; D 0.07m) running NE-SW that formed a fence and extended to the SW outside the excavated area. Traces of a parallel line of stake-holes were recorded c. 5m to the SE. The pit (WX020-104----) is c. 145m to the W, and the pit (WX020-106----) is c. 150m to the ENE. (Hardy and Rajic, M. 2012; Hardy 2013)
