Cist

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated towards the bottom of the N-facing slope of an ENE-WSW ridge. A cist was first discovered and closed without disturbance c. 1913 (Hartnett and Prendergast 1953, 57). It was re-opened in 1965 and excavated. The cist (int. dims. 1m E-W; 0.55m N-S; H 0.45-0.5m N-S) was composed of four slabs with outer supporting stones surviving on the S and W sides. The floor was of clay and there was a single lintel. It contained the inhumed remains of a young adult male and a child, and there was a bowl food vessel in the SW corner.
