The National Monuments Service's description
Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Effernoge 1 (Hardy et al. 2010, 58). It is situated in the valley of a NE-SW stream, with a N-S section of the stream immediately to the E. It was completely excavated (E4233) by M. McNamara who uncovered a layer of burnt stone material (dims 9.4m NE-SW; 8.53m NW-SE; T 0.16m), with a large area of oxidized subsoil (dims 2.1m x 2m) beneath, which is interpreted as a fire-spot involved in heating the stones. However, no trough was recorded in the excavated area. There was a section of a palaeochannel (Wth 5.5m; exposed L 16.3m) that curved around the W edge of the mound. The fulacht fia (WX011-076----) is c. 270m directly to the WSW, although the stream loops to the S between the sites. (McNamara 2012; 2013)
