The National Monuments Service's description
Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Balloughter 1 (Hardy et al. 2010, 45). It is situated on a slight NW-facing slope and was completely excavated (E4286) by B. Sutton as a ploughed-out mound of burnt stone material (dims 3.25m E-W; 2.4m N-S; max. T 0.1m), which was c. 4m N of a subrectangular trough (dims 2.55m NW-SE; 1.85m NE-SW; max. D 0.35m). The trough had a small gully (L 1.1m; max. Wth 0.3m; max. D 0.16m) leading off from the W corner. A sample from this gully produced a C14 date of Cal. BC 717-399. (Hull and Ruttle 2012; Sutton 2013)
