The National Monuments Service's description
Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as Frankfort 3 (Hardy et al. 2010, 34). It is situated on a rise in an undulating landscape and was completely excavated (E4183) by B. Sutton. An oval pit (dims 0.85m x 0.65m; D 0.18m) contained charcoal, silt and slag and is interpreted as waste from iron-production. There were 10 stake or post-holes in the immediate vicinity as well as deposits rich in burnt stone and clay, and iron slag. A sample from the pit produced a C14 date of cal. AD 893-968. The unrelated pit (WX011-066----) is c. 90m to the W, and the unrelated burnt mound (WX011-068----) is c. 200m to the ENE. (Hull et al. 2011; Sutton 2013)
