The National Monuments Service's description
Marked as a 'Dolmen' only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated at the N base of Tara Hill, at the junction with a more level landscape. It is described in 1940 as located on the W side of a NW-SE stone wall that formed the E boundary of a farmyard. It is described then as a large stone (dims. c. 2.4m x c. 1m; T c. 0.5m) resting on upright stones at the W end. The capstone had been altered from a N-S orientation before that, according to local reports (OSFM). It had been removed by 1987 and the site is now occupied by a hayshed.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
