Ringfort - rath

Situated on SE side of a small ridge, in NE corner of an undulating field, with good views to E and S. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a circular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1979 as a circular-shaped area (dims. 30m N-S; 29m E-W) enclosed in part by an inner bank reduced to a scarp in places with entrance gap at E. A substantial earth and stone bank is visible from W-N-E and a low scarp is present from E-S-WSW. There is a possible external fosse visible from W-NW. A natural outer scarp is located a short distance outside the perimeter from ENE-E-S-SW. The bank is best preserved from W-NW and is faint at NE. The bank is incorporated into a modern field fence running E-W from NW-N-NNE and a second field fence runs N-S close to the perimeter at E. The scarp is highest at SE and is faint at SW. The N side of the entrance gap appears to have stone facing. The interior has a SE-facing slope. Monument is visible today as a partially tree-lined circular-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.
