Ringfort - rath

Situated on E-facing slope, in pasture. Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork. Monument described in 1977 as an irregular subcircular-shaped area (diam. 33m) enclosed by an inner bank, an intervening fosse and a possible outer bank. The inner earth and stone bank is low and is best preserved from SW-W-WNW. There is a gap at E and NW and the bank is slightly defaced at other points by livestock paths. There are the remains of a narrow, shallow intervening fosse from SSW-SW-WSW. There is a slight rise in the ground outside the fosse which looks like a low outer bank is present from ENE-E-SE-SSE, however this may be due to natural outcrop and the addition of dumping field clearance around the exterior of the monument. A modern field fence runs roughly NW-SE outside the monument at SW. The interior has an uneven E-facing slope and a shallow linear depression of unknown significance is visible running roughly NW to SE across the E quadrant. Monument is visible today as a roughly circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography.
