Castle - tower house

The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on the W end of a rise, in pasture. Annotated ‘Stremmingstown Castle (in ruins)’ on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map. Castle described in 1979 as a rectangular-shaped ruins (dims. 9m N-S x 7m E-W) the walls (H 6m) of which are constructed of limestone and are best preserved (H 6m) at the corners. The poorly preserved internal dividing walls stand 2-3m high. There are no architectural features, cut or dressed stone visible. There are breaches in the S and W walls which have been rebuilt with dry stone walling. There are mounds of loose stone surrounding the walls on the interior and exterior. This castle may date to the 16th or 17th century. A small walled enclosure (dims. 13m N-S x 7m E-W) now levelled abuts the castle to E which appears to be the remains of the walls depicted on the OS 25-inch map and are probably post-1700 in date. There are no other features or earthworks visible.
Castle described by Salter (2004, 157) as following; 'Corners of tower 9m by 7m stand up to 6m high'.
