Situated on top of a small rise, in undulating pasture, with fairly good views in all directions. A tree-ring (WM018-145----) lies c. 67m to NE. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped tree-lined earthwork. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork.
Monument described in 1980 as a small, roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 11m) enclosed by an inner bank and an outer fosse. The inner earthen bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.1m; Wth at top 0.2m; overall Wth 2.7m) is low and present from WNW-N-E. There is a large, deep depression at the foot of the bank from SE-S-W which is probably due to disturbance caused during construction of the Royal Canal and fence line. There is no obvious entrance. A very narrow and shallow fosse-like feature (Wth at top 1.4m; basal Wth 0.6m; D 0.3m) is present from WNW-N-ESE. The outer face of the fosse is very sharp suggesting that it is relatively modern. The interior is level. There are some small areas of rock outcrop in the vicinity to NE. The exact nature of this site is unclear as the bank and fosse may not be original features. It may be a disturbed barrow or simply an estate feature associated with Belmont House, which lies c. 260m to SW. Monument is obscured by a roughly triangular-shaped tree-planted area on Digital Globe aerial photography.
